On the Balcony

In front of the sombre mountains, a faint, lost ribbon of rainbow;
And between us and it, the thunder;
And down below in the green wheat, the labourers
Stand like dark stumps, still in the green wheat.
You are near to me, and your naked feet in their sandals,
And through the scent of the balcony’s naked timber
I distinguish the scent of your hair: so now the limber
Lightning falls from heaven.
Adown the pale-green glacier river floats
A dark boat through the gloom — and whither?
The thunder roars. But still we have each other!
The naked lightnings in the heavens dither
And disappear — what have we but each other?
The boat has gone.
음울한 산 앞에 희미한 잃어버린 무지개 한 오라기.
우리와 무지개 사이엔 천둥치고
저 아래 푸른 밀밭에 농부들 시커먼 그루터기처럼 서 있다.
푸른 밀밭에 꼼짝 않고.
그대 내 가까이 있다. 맨발로 샌달 신고
발코니의 생목재 향기 속에서
나 그대 머리칼 내음 맡는다. 그래 이제 하늘에선
번개 가볍게 친다.
연두빛 빙하 따라 검은 보트 한 척
어둠 속에 떠간다. 어디로 가는 걸까?
천둥이 우르릉 친다. 그래도 우린 서로를 소유하고 있어!
하늘의 맨 번개는 몸을 떨다가 사라진다.
우리는 서로 외엔 무얼 가졌나?
보트는 사라졌다.
