A yellow leaf from the darkness
Hops like a frog before me.
Why should I start and stand still?
I was watching the woman that bore me
Stretched in the brindled darkness
Of the sick-room, rigid with will
To die: and the quick leaf tore me
Back to this rainy swill
Of leaves and lamps and traffic mingled before me.
노랑 잎새 하나 어둠에서 나와
개구리처럼 내 앞에서 팔짝팔짝 뛴다.
왜 난 흠칫 놀라 꼼짝 않고 서 있나?
난 지켜보고 있었다. 날 낳은 여인이
죽으려는 각오로 몸이 굳어 누워 있는 것을.
병실의 얼룩진 어둠 속에서.
그런데 팔딱이는 잎새 내 정신 빼앗아 데려왔다.
비에 씻겨 흐물거리는
나뭇잎새와 가로등, 도시의 거리로.
